Meat Sauce with Ground Beef

Camila Alves' recipe for a 5-ingredient ground beef skillet dinner
TODAY Show: Camila Alves cooks up a 5-ingredient ground beef dinner you can make in a skillet. -- April 15, 2015 Samantha Okazaki / TODAY

Ingredients

Ground beef

  • 4 pounds of 80/20 ground beef
  • Olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • ½ cup onion
  • 2 plum tomatoes, chopped
  • For meat sauce

  • 2 garlic cloves
  • Handful of white onion
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 24-oz jars tomato sauce
  • ½ cup carrots
  • ½ cup corn
  • Spanish green olives, sliced in half
  • 4 basil leaves
  • Drizzle of honey
  • 1/3 ground beef
  • Preparation

    For ground beef:

    1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add a drizzle of olive oil, chopped garlic and 2 large pinches of salt.
    2. Add the onions and cook down until translucent, then add tomatoes.
    3. Increase heat to high and add the ground beef. If the meat becomes lumpy while cooking, grab a whisk and smash it to break it apart. Add black pepper and salt to taste. Season the meat well.
    4. Cook until the liquid is almost evaporated and meat is cooked through. You don't want to have the meat get too dry.

    For meat sauce:

    1. In a skillet, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and let it heat up.
    2. Add the chopped garlic cloves and let it cook for a minute.
    3. Add two pinches of salt and then add the chopped onions. Let the onions cook a little bit, about 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
    4. Add 1/3 of the meat to the skillet, combine, and let it cook down for one minute and then add your favorite jarred sauce. I used a tomato basil sauce. Depending how meaty you like your sauce, adjust the amount of jar sauce you add to the skillet.
    5. Cook over medium-high heat until sauce comes to a boil, and then reduce to a medium-low heat. Add salt and pepper to taste.
    6. Add carrots, corn, green olives, basil leaves, and a drizzle of honey. If needed, add more salt and pepper to taste.

Bathroom in a box blind stand????

I've got two box blinds on a long power line on my lease. I always have to pee before I'm ready to get down in the morning. Been using an old Camel Pack but thinking about something else. Thought about drilling a hole thru the floor and putting a piece of PVC pipe through it. I was going to bury the bottom of the pipe two or three feet in the dirt and the top of the pipe would be "waist" height inside the blind with a removal cap. Anybody done this or have any other ideas?

Where I used to hunt before it was turned into mini farms we had a huge 10'x10' box blind 12' in the air. What we did was take a 2" PVC pipe and ran it through the floor and down into the ground. We buried the end in a bucket of gravel with holes drilled in it to allow the liquid to excape. The bucket was sunk about two feet into the ground and covered up. In the blind we took a 2"x4" reducing coupling and glued it to the top. When you are done using it we would cover it with a small plastic paint bucket. About once a week we poured a bit of RV tank treatment in it. Using that there was no smell at all. Now for other waste we used double food lion bags and and a bucket with a toilet seat on it. Takes a bit of getting used to it but it works! We would spend a week in the blind every day during the rut and not leave until dark. Good luck!

That is where the bucket dumper comes in.
few trash bags in a 6 gal high boy bucket dumper.....
tie the bag add the lid and it has a gama seal for the ride to the closest trash can on the way home. Those big ones at the maga fuel stations work that around the pump......

The fuel smell covers the crap smell.

I say pee out the door....but my dad and I built a box stand for my mom a few years ago and did this. We dug a hole with the tractor when we were digging for the post then drilled a bunch or holes in a pcs of 2in pvc and put rocks around it. Then covered the top couple of feet with dirt. Inside we brought it from 2 to 4 and from 4 to 6 and put a screw on cap on it. I think it hasnt been used in years and wasnt used much to begin with. I open the door and piss outside when I hunt that stand mainly because I am scared of what that hole might smell like...

How to Set Up a Wireless Printer

    CC0/Pixabay

It was once a luxury to print from anywhere in your home or office, but affordable wireless printers now make it easy for anyone to print using Wi-Fi connections. And you don't have to be intimidated at the idea of installing a wireless printer in your home or office. They are remarkably easy to install if you know the right steps. Use these tips to quickly and easily set up your new wireless printer.

    Unpack and Prepare for Setup

When you get your new printer home, make sure everything you need is in the box. It should come with a power cord, instructions and starter ink cartridges. Carefully examine all the parts of the printer to make sure you have removed all protective tape and stickers. Place the printer within range of your Wi-Fi router or access point. (Most have a range of about 50 feet.) Most printers require you to set up the software with basic information and then wait for the ink cartridges to run tests and align.

Connect the Printer to Your Wireless Network

To connect your printer to your network, you need your network name (often called the SSID) and password. If your printer has a button labeled WSP or with the Wi-Fi icon, press it and then quickly go to your router and press the same button (within two minutes). This sets up an automatic connection between the network and the printer. If this connection works, you can proceed to the next step.

If you don't have a WSP or Wi-FI icon button, you need to go into the printer's menu to establish a connection. See the instructions that came with the printer for the exact steps. Some printers require a manual connection between the computer and the printer to establish a connection the first time. If that's necessary, the documentation that came with the printer can walk you through that process.

Add the Printer Driver to Your PC

If you're running Windows 8 or later, go to Settings by right clicking the Windows button. If you're using Windows 7 or earlier, use the Start Menu to access the Control Panel. Choose "Devices" or "View Devices and Printers," click "Add a printer," and then choose your printer from the list of devices. It may take a few minutes for your printer to appear, so be patient. Windows automatically installs the drivers for most printers. If that doesn't happen, you can install it yourself by downloading it from the manufacturer's website or from the CD that came with your printer.

Add the Printer Driver to Your Mac

Click the Apple icon at the top of the screen and choose "System Preferences." Click on "Printers & Scanners," and when the window appears, click the plus symbol (+) at the bottom. The new printer should appear in the list in the window. If it doesn't show up, you can search for it in the search bar. When the printer appears, click on it to highlight it, and then choose "Auto Select" from the dropdown box that reads "Choose a Driver." If it's available from Apple, click "Add" to automatically download the driver software. If it isn't available for automatic installation, you can install it yourself by downloading it from the manufacturer's website or from the CD that came with your printer.

Enjoy Printing to Your New Printer

Once the software is installed, you should be able to print to your new printer. Windows lets you send a test print to the printer, or you can open a document or photo to print. If the printer doesn't work, you may need to restart the printer and computer to get them to communicate with each other. Once you establish a connection, you can enjoy the freedom of printing a recipe from the kitchen, a family photo from the living room and so much more.

    Stainless Steel Bathroom Trash Can

    Stainless Steel Bathroom Trash Can

The humble trash can has been around since the late 1800s—and it's changed considerably over the course of two centuries. Various innovations have made the household staple more practical, sturdy and discreet, but designers are still figuring out new ways to refine it.

Nowadays, you can get all manner of elegant receptacles that are not only functional but beautiful and durable, too. That's because, contrary to what gets thrown in them, trash cans are intended to be a lasting addition to the home. Therefore, it's worth investing in a high-quality design.

When it comes to smaller spaces, like the bathroom, it's best to opt for a smaller trash can that is adept at fitting into tight spaces. It's also worthwhile picking one that has a foot pedal or automatic lid, so using it is both effortless and hygienic. Of course, it should look good, too.

Here, we've curated four of the best small trash cans that will add a touch of class to the most unglamorous of tasks.

    1. iTouchless 2.5 Gallon Bathroom Touchless Trash Can

Perfect for the germophobes in the mix, the iTouchless trash can features a sensor-operated lid which means absolutely no touching is required. Simply wave your hand in front of the motion sensor and the lid will open automatically. It's both super easy and hygienic. The 2.5-gallon trash can features a durable stainless steel body and matching plastic lid that is fingerprint-resistant and easy to clean. Furthermore, it's fitted with an odor filter and lemon-scented fragrance cartridge that together offer complete odor control. Your bathroom will never look or smell better.

    2. Simplehuman 2.6 Gallon Step Trash Can

Simplehuman is known for its quality trash cans and this 2.6-gallon design is no exception. It features a nifty butterfly lid that opens from the center. This means it has low lid clearance and can easily squeeze into tight spaces, like under a vanity. The lid also uses special patented technology to ensure it closes both slowly and silently. Forget about those loud bangs. The hardwearing steel pedal, meanwhile, is engineered to last 150,000 steps which means you can use the trash can 20 times a day for up to 20 years. You can also opt for a dark bronze stainless steel finish, which not only resists smudges but looks great, too.

    3. Mingol Bathroom Trash Can with Lid

For homeowners with discerning taste, Mingol's trash can is arguably the most stylish on this list. The 1.3-gallon design exudes a vintage, retro style that will suit more classic homes. It's a great size for the bathroom or laundry and features a removable inner bucket for easy daily trash disposal. It's also fitted with a noise-free lid that closes in a slow and silent fashion to avoid any startling bangs. The glossy polished exterior is available in an array of pastel hues and is also highly durable and a cinch to clean.

    Mingol Bathroom Trash Can

    Amazon

Mingol Bathroom Trash Can with Lid: $30.99

    4. MDesign Round Metal Small Trash Can

There's nothing wrong with keeping things simple. Take, for instance, MDesign's no-frills trash can. It does away with pedals and lids for a straightforward design. The round open-top trash can is not only a pleasure to use, but it's also extremely versatile and can suit many different spaces. It can even double as a planter if you line the base with something waterproof. The trash can is forged from durable stainless steel that is both rust-resistant and easy to clean. It also comes in a spate of different colors should you find the classic steel a little too boring.
